Terms of Service
Effective Date: 01/07/2025
Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Chroma Studio ("the Service," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website and services, including the color palette generator, palette analyzer, gradient tools, extract palette from image tool and user account features. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which are incorporated herein by reference.
Service Description and Free Access
Chroma Studio provides free, browser-based tools for generating, exploring, and saving color palettes, gradients, and related color schemes.
- No Fees: The core features of Chroma Studio are provided to you free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce optional premium services in the future, but we will always notify you before charging for any services.
- "AS IS" Basis: The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. While we strive for reliability, we cannot guarantee that the Service will always be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
User Accounts and Authentication
To access features like saving your favorite color palettes and gradients (User Content), you must register for an account.
- Authentication Methods: You may register using your email address and a password, or via a supported third-party OAuth provider (Google, GitHub, Facebook, or Figma), managed by our backend provider Supabase. For email/password accounts, Supabase stores your password as a bcrypt hash with a random salt in its internal
auth.userstable — the plain-text password is never stored, and Chroma Studio never has access to it. For OAuth sign-ins, no password is stored at all. - Purpose of Account Data: Your account information is collected solely to enable you to save your favorite palettes and gradients. We do not use it for marketing, profiling, or any other purpose without your explicit consent.
- Account Accuracy: You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration and to keep this information updated.
Generated Content and How It Is Stored
Chroma Studio's tools generate color palettes and gradients algorithmically and randomly using the chroma.js library. Every time you click Generate, the resulting palette may be saved to our public Supabase database as shared catalog content. If you are logged in, your user ID may be temporarily associated with that generated entry so you can manage your own interactions with it. This allows generated palettes and gradients to appear in the Explore section for other users to discover.
- Auto-saved data: The color values (hex codes), an auto-generated name, and a public visibility flag may be stored in Supabase's
palettesorgradientstable. - Favorites (Likes): When you like a palette or gradient, a record is created in the
user_interactionstable linking your user ID to that content. This is what populates your Favorites page. - Shared catalog content: Public generated palettes and gradients are treated as Chroma Studio catalog content, not as private user-authored works. If the account that first generated a public entry is deleted, that public entry may remain available without being associated with the deleted account.
- Algorithmic Generation: All color combinations are produced by Chroma Studio's algorithm — they are not manually curated by any individual.
User Content and License
User Content refers to all data, including saved color palettes, gradients, and their names, that you choose to save while using the Service.
- Ownership: You retain all rights and ownership of your saved User Content. We do not claim any ownership rights over your colors or designs.
- License to Chroma Studio: By saving User Content, you grant Chroma Studio a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and reproduce your User Content only as strictly necessary to operate and improve the Service (e.g., to render your saved palettes in your account).
- Public Content: If you choose to make your saved palette or gradient publicly discoverable, you additionally grant us a license to display and share that content publicly on the platform.
Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to misuse the Service or assist others in doing so. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Violating any laws or regulations.
- Infringing upon any third party's rights, including copyright or trademark.
- Using the Service to create or promote illegal, fraudulent, or harmful content.
- Attempting to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service or any related system or network.
- Engaging in automated or high-volume creation of accounts or content (spam).
Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights in the Service itself (excluding User Content), including the user interface, design, software, code, and documentation, are owned by Chroma Studio. You agree not to copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of our Service without our express written permission.
Disclaimer of Warranties
SINCE THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, CHROMA STUDIO PROVIDES THE SERVICE "AS IS," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
We specifically disclaim all warranties and conditions of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. We make no warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CHROMA STUDIO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.
Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time directly from Account Settings → Delete My Account. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible: your authentication account, profile information, private saved content, likes, saves, and personal interaction records will be removed from our systems. Public palettes or gradients generated through Chroma Studio may remain available as shared catalog content, but they will no longer be associated with your account. You may also request deletion by email at contact@chromastudio.app.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, for any reason, including if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time as described above.
Governing Law and Contact
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Chroma Studio is operated, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.
